A clinical project manager at a top 30 pharma company discusses how they utilize NGS in clinical trials, and the reasoning behind the vendors they choose to utilize. They currently utilize Illumina instruments, and are considering bringing ThermoFisher’s Genexus in house as well as potentially utilizing Oxford Nanopore and PacBio through services. They are slightly familiar with MGI / Complete Genomics but have not heard of Ultima, Singular, and Element. Given they are running global clinical trials under FDA scrutiny, they have a strong preference for the most commonly utilized instruments, as their international samples will be sent to CROs across various countries, and they want uniform instruments to be utilized across the trial.
