The head of a genomics facility in the EU supports basic research at universities and hospitals. The research focuses are very diverse, ranging from CRISPR to forensic and agricultural research. They currently own instruments from Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, and PacBio, and they previously owned various ThermoFisher sequencers. They plan to purchase an AVITI sequencer from Element, and are interested in learning more about Singular, MGI /Complete Sciences, and Ultima. They were able to discuss pros and cons of each instrument provider. They believe that instruments need a significant value add or unique capability to justify bringing in house given the logistical and cost lift of doing so. Their main pain points revolve around library prep, and they are one of the only interviewees highly satisfied with their current bioinformatics infrastructure.
